Finding Balance

I've been asked several times to explain this particular piece, so I wanted to take a moment to tell you what this painting means to me and why I created it with the unusual black sun as the focus.

"Dancing Leaves" is from a particular childhood memory. Its a memory I have each fall, as I watch the wind blow the leaves from the trees. This memory is of one fall day that I was outside, alone, left to explore my surroundings. I remember being particularly fascinated by a pile of leaves that were continuously picked up by the wind. I watched these leaves for some time, swirl and dance around me. I wanted to capture the playfulness and the magic of this moment in this painting with the fun and colorful dancing pink leaves, but I also wanted it to portray something deeper.   I painted the contrasting black sun to represent mystery and balance in life.

Finding balance is something I strive to do each day, and I believe it will be my focus this next year.  What do you hope to accomplish in 2016?  Please share in the comments below.
